Cameron Mathison warns of comments about the LA fire that can be very painful for victims
“All My Children” alum Cameron Mathison offered advice on what not to say to a Los Angeles fire survivor after losing her home.
“Maybe if you’re sharing or commenting on someone who lost their home in these fires, and everything they have – everyone has a very different relationship with their home,” the TV star said in a video shared on Instagram.
Mathison lost his house in the LA fire that started on January 7th and is still burning.

“Some people might just travel a lot. Some people might have moved to LA, but have all their friendship stuff at home with their parents. And then some people might have been in that house for a long time, and it really represents a lifetime of memories, and it’s where their children were raised and everything they had – everything they had – was in it,” explains the star of “General Hospital”, “from their childhood, to their children’s childhood, and it represents something like love and memories, too it can mean a lot.”
“Remember that when you share, and you say something like, ‘It’s just a house,’ or ‘It’s just stuff, and you can give that back.’
“For some people that may be true, but for most people it’s more than that,” he added.

Mathison previously revealed that she left behind some “valuable” items when she left her home in the wake of the Eaton fire. The actress only took passports, birth certificates and photo albums because she “really didn’t believe” she was going to lose her home.
“Unfortunately I left out some important ones when the kids were very young and it’s a movie you can’t change,” Mathison said. Entertainment Tonight. “If I thought the house was coming down, I would have caught more.”

Mathison recalled that his house burned down while he was watching the news. “I was just sitting there, it was about 6 o’clock in the morning, I had to go up there,” he said, buying a mask and protective glasses before entering his neighborhood. “It looked like a war zone.”
The actor saw that his home was “gone” when he arrived. “It was absolutely destroyed. There was nothing there. Under nothing. It was just ashes.”

Southern California firefighters continued to battle the Palisades and Eaton wildfires Wednesday, which have killed at least 28 people and destroyed more than 14,000 structures since they broke out Jan. 7. Containment of the Palisades Fire reached 68%, while the Eaton Fire was 91%.
The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is investigating the cause of the fire but has not yet released the results.
