See AI at its Hottest and Most Dangerous in Steamy Netflix Sci-Fi Thriller

The arrival of AI in the form of programs like ChatGPT and Dall-E 2 has caused a lot of speculation about the role of this technology and how it can improve and disrupt our daily lives. A debate that continues to rage in Hollywood, many classic bad robot movies are being replaced by new movies about new kinds of dangers (like the new Mission Impossible movies with a disembodied AI as their Big Bad). Humility is a film about a construction foreman whose wife’s illness forces him to buy a life-like female android to help around the house. Unfortunately, the robot develops feelings for its human master, and begins to look like it feels the same way. When a robot decides to go all Single Byte Female and tries to kill the man’s wife, however, the flesh-and-blood couple must join in the fight for their lives… which may be the fight for the soul of humanity. .

For one thing, Megan Fox is good as a robot who threatens to tear this family’s life apart by being nothing more than a robot. It’s actually his misplaced love that causes all these problems in the first place, and the subplot about his humanity actually making him inhumane to the world is disturbing in its murky depths.
In addition, Humility he does a good job of metaphorically simulating different societal reactions to the invention of AI. The film makes it clear that our male lead is worried about how the arrival of humanoid images will affect his construction work and the workforce as a whole. This doesn’t stop him from fooling around with his robot, of course, and his character ultimately embodies both our admiration and fear of this new technology.
Finally, your mileage may vary, but I enjoyed the movie’s clear thesis that the road to an AI apocalypse is paved with good intentions. Our main character has good reasons for buying a robotic assistant in the first place, and even his moment of weakness is tied to relieving his stress so he can provide for his family and his employees. Still, it’s quickly becoming clear that AI is destructive no matter how well-intentioned its users are, and that’s a message that, frankly, most people can’t hear.
