The Electoral College vote moves Trump another step toward officially becoming president
CONCORD, NH – Presidential electors gathered in statehouses across the country on Tuesday to vote in the 2024 election, a key step in officially confirming President-elect Trump’s victory in the White House last month over Vice President Kamala Harris.
At the New Hampshire Statehouse, four state electors voted on behalf of Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, in a ceremonial vote.
Harris edged Trump by nearly three percentage points to carry New Hampshire, the only swing state in New England.

“This is an official vote for the President and Vice President of the United States,” said New Hampshire Secretary of State Dave Scanlan, who oversaw the process. “Every state in the country is currently going through this process.”
New Hampshire was one of four states, along with Indiana, Tennessee and Vermont, to lead the Electoral College poll on Tuesday.

When Americans vote in elections for the White House, they vote for state electors committed to supporting their choices for president and vice president. Voters are expected to vote in accordance with the result of the popular vote in their state.

Electoral votes from the states will be confirmed on Jan. 6 during a joint session of Congress. And Trump will be inaugurated as president two weeks later, on Jan. 20.
Political parties in each region choose a list of voters before the general election.

Trump won the presidential election in a landslide, winning the popular vote for the first time in three attempts, and carried all seven of the key contested states.
The former and future president ended up winning the electoral vote, 312 to 226, over Harris.
