The Cubs announced that they have signed a catcher Carson Kelly on a two-year deal, according to Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune. The backstop will earn $11.5MM, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports. There’s also the same option for 2027 and $500K in bonuses available each year, per ESPN’s Jesse Rogers. According to Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic, $5MM in salary over two guaranteed years of the deal and a $1.5MM buyout of the $7.5MM option. The incentives are $250K for 81 startups and another $250K for 91 startups each year. Earlier this week, it was reported that the parties were close to a deal but few details were available at the time.
