After the fall of leader Bashar al-Assad in Syria, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz promised to help rebuild the country.
“Europe will also help in the reconstruction,” Scholz said in a video on X.
After years of suffering due to civil war, Syrians deserve a life of freedom and security, the chancellor said.
The new governors of the country must ensure this, said Scholz. “We will work with them on this basis.”
Some Syrian refugees in Germany hope to soon return to their homeland, Scholz said. “We will support this as soon as the situation allows,” he said.
However, well-integrated Syrians in Germany will always be welcome in the country, Scholz said.
