Immigration activists in New York City on Thursday criticized Mayor Eric Adam’s meeting with Trump’s incoming border chief Tom Homan, accusing him of “collusion” with the new administration.
“It is unfortunate that Mayor Adams continues to shirk his responsibilities to support New York City’s existing policies and values as a sanctuary city by working with Trump’s border kingpin Tom Homan,” said Murad Awawdeh, President and CEO of the New York Immigration Coalition, in a statement. statement.

“I will not fight with these managers, I will cooperate with these managers,” Adams said last week. “President Trump is the president-elect. And whoever he chooses to run his agencies. I look forward to sitting down and seeing how we can make New York better.”
“I like to talk to our border governor and find out what his plans are. When we have common reasons, we can work together. But that didn’t stop activist groups from criticizing the meeting.

Adams has taken a tougher line on illegal immigration than many of his Democratic colleagues, including proposing that sanctuary policies be rolled back to allow for the deportation of criminals. Some Democrats have promised to veto or even help with deportations.
