Nicole Richie talks about Joel Madden’s relationship by calling her dad
Nicole Richie he was sure that Joel Madden it was the One after the first meeting.
“Joel is very shy,” Richie, 43, revealed during an appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast on Wednesday, December 11. “The first night I met him, he didn’t actually talk to me, and I was like, ‘This is my husband.’”
Richie recalled a “friend” introducing him to Madden, 45, in 2006 because they were both single at the time.
“I had never associated with musicians. But our friend doesn’t respect us at all,” said Richie. “She was like, ‘You’re single and she’s single, so it’s not going to be serious, but you should be together.’ We did.”
Although they didn’t really talk that first night out, Richie knew Madden was in love with him.
“He ended up sending messages. … Or email. I don’t know,” he added. “Whatever was going on at the time.”
Four years after their 2006 meeting, Richie and Madden announced they were engaged. By December 2010, they were married. The couple have welcomed two children, daughter Harlow, 16, and son Sparrow, 15.
Elsewhere in Wednesday’s episode of “Call Her Daddy”, Richie tried to remember when he introduced Madden to a best friend. Paris Hilton (who was also a guest on the podcast).
“Was it that night? I don’t know,” said Richie. “I feel like it was Thanksgiving weekend, and it was so fast, I feel like, when you met him.”
Hilton, 43, said she “loved” Richie’s relationship with singer Good Charlotte from the start.
“I thought they were great,” added Hilton. “Joel is very sweet. You are very honest. He’s one of those types of guys that is completely different than an LA guy. “
Richie noted that it was “on.com” between him and Madden after they first met. The House of Harlow founder also admitted he was a big fan of Charlotte at the time – but lied about a different interest in pop culture during their early days.
“He hates it when I tell this story,” Richie said, recalling one night when Madden invited him over to watch TV and asked if he was an HBO fan. The phone.
