The Texas Longhorns’ live mascot, Bevo, has been banned from the SEC tournament
The SEC title game will feature two schools with arguably the most popular mascots in college sports, but only one of them will make the trip.
Texas and Georgia face off Saturday in Atlanta in the SEC tournament’s first-round bye from the College Football Playoff, but Mercedes-Benz Stadium only has one slot for the animals.
Bevo, the Longhorn’s live mascot, will not be attending the game because he will not be fit.

“When we received the request for Bevo to be on the sidelines at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, our staff looked at other options, including a sideline,” the SEC said in a statement. “The reality is that the sidelines are small in the stadium. We will not risk the safety of Bevo or the participants of the game.
“With small sides, room for many sets of television and camera carts, there is not enough space. Although we want to respect the tradition throughout the conference, space limitations are real.”
Bevo, the 15th edition of the mascot, weighs nearly a ton and has a 58-inch wide horn. Georgia’s mascot, Uga XI, is a very small dog.
Bevo XV and Uga X had an incident in 2019, when the longhorn broke through the wall at that year’s Sugar Bowl and nearly stepped on a dog and onlookers at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
