Celtics’ Jaylen Brown fined $25,000 for ‘inappropriate’ conduct

Jaylen Brown was fined after committing what the NBA called an “inappropriate act.”

The Boston Celtics star moved his thumb around his throat briefly after making a dunk on Wednesday.

Brown threw down a two-handed dunk on Detroit Pistons’ Isaiah Stewart, then motioned toward Stewart.

Brown told the media after the 130-120 victory over the Pistons that he was waiting to hear from the NBA about his action.

Well, you got hit with a $25,000 fine.

It’s only the second fine in the NBA this season for “obscene conduct,” according to Spotrac. Anthony Edwards was fined $35,000 for giving the middle finger.

Players were fined last year for hand gestures, perhaps especially Rudy Gobert, when he appeared to show that the referees have money in the game. That cost $100,000.

Brown had 28 points and nine assists, while Kristaps Porzingis added 26 points and nine rebounds to lead the Celtics to their ninth win in 10 games.

The Celtics held a double-digit lead until the fourth quarter, when Detroit scored four straight points to pull within eight points, 109-101, and force Boston coach Joe Mazzella to replace Brown.

The Pistons cut it to five in the last minute with a three-pointer by Tobias Harris, but a three-pointer by Payton Pritchard ended it.
