Tony Finau cleared the air Wednesday amid rumors that he is leaving the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf.
Finau withdrew from this week’s Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas and was not signed up to play at The Sentry, the 2025 season-opening event in Maui next month. That fueled false rumors that the No. 26 player in the world was leaving the PGA Tour.
In an interview with Golfweek, Finau said Wednesday that his absence from the Bahamas this weekend was due to a “routine” recent cleaning procedure to repair a torn meniscus and remove cartilage from his left knee. He previously had the same problem with his right knee.
More recovery time this week will certainly allow Finau, 35, to be ready for The Sentry, which takes place on Jan. 2-5 in Kapalua, Hawaii.
“I’m very happy where I am on the PGA Tour and I’m looking forward to 2025,” Finau told Gosweek. “When I put it together in Maui, [the rumors] everything will be fine, so I don’t worry about it at all.”
In 22 events in 2024, Finau did not record a championship victory but had one title, five top ten finishes, and 15 events in which he finished in the top 25. He finished the season No. 23 in the FedEx Cup standings. .
Since 2015, Finau has won six championships, and 11 runner-up finishes while earning $43.1 million in earnings. Finau has never won a major but has finished in the top five at all four majors, including third-place finishes at the 2024 US Open and the 2019 Open Championship.
