Conservative columnist Scott Jennings is joining the LA Times editorial board amid the paper’s shakeup

Conservative columnist Scott Jennings announced he has joined the Los Angeles Times editorial board on Friday as part of the owner’s new push to balance the paper.

Jennings, who often provokes outrage from liberal CNN viewers, praised LA Times owner Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong to X for his “important and meaningful” work.

“It’s true – I have accepted @DrPatSoonShiong’s invitation to join the @latimes editorial board,” Jennings wrote on X.

“I have written columns for the paper for the past few years and was honored to do so under such an important title. I love newspapers and I believe in strong journalism and strong opinion pages that represent many points of view. I approach my commentary duties by starting with the truth and then giving my honest opinion based on my ethics and experience. I think Dr. Soon -Shiong is doing something important and fundamental and I am honored that he asked me to participate in that,” he continued.

Jennings said the paper’s overhaul is a step forward in addressing concerns many Americans have about biased media reporting.

“About half (or more) of the country often feels like the legacy media doesn’t care what it thinks and has little interest in representing their opinions and values properly. I plan to stand up for those Americans who believe they are often ignored or ridiculed by the media and applaud Dr. Soon-Shiong’s initiative to bring equality to the board planning my other professional responsibilities will not be affected by this new opportunity,” Jennings’ post concluded.

The paper’s owner revealed earlier in the week that it had invited CNN’s top political commentator to join the editorial board as part of the new direction.

“That’s why I want Scott on our new board of editors!!! Growing the board with professionals with balanced opinions is considered and new candidates accept the challenge to join us! The way to go Scott and thanks for accepting. Stay tuned we make this happen,” Soon-Shiong wrote Thursday in X.

Jennings was previously an aide to President George W. Bush before becoming a CNN contributor in 2017 and an LA Times contributing writer in 2019.
