Lala Kent Weeps, Says VPR Cast Change Reminds Her of Her Father’s Death

“I knew this was coming for a while. I think I knew the moment I lost it – at the end of season 11,” Kent, 34, explained on Friday, November 29, an episode of the former costar. Scheana Shay‘s “Scheananigans” podcast. “It just ended up being too much for me.”

“I do not compare this moment to my father’s passing. But there was a time when I remember I was in a limo in Utah and it broke down on the freeway going up to Park City,” he said. “And I wanted to lose the s—. I remember looking at my dad and I’m like I want to lower my anxiety because I’m like, ‘This is a moment I want to remember because it’s funny.’ We are in a broken down white car on the side of the road. I said, ‘Dad won’t be here forever because he has health problems.’ Then a phone call that says, ‘Dad is gone.’

Kent began to cry as he recalled the news of his father’s death in 2018.

“I’m not comparing the end of Vanderpump Rules to that. But I remember a lot of times we all have ups and downs and we’re like, ‘Guys, we’re on a great TV show,'” he continued. “This is wild. One day it will be over. We will not remember the bad. We will just be happy that everything happened. It won’t last forever.”

Vanderpump Rules debuted on Bravo in 2013 as a spinoff The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Kent joined season 4 and stayed on the show until the news on Tuesday, November 26, that season 12 will feature an entirely new cast.

“When [executive producer] Alex [Baskin] he called me, I knew it was coming. But it was like, ‘Oh, here we are.’ It’s not like it used to be,” Kent said on Friday. “And now I have the effect of graduating. Where it’s like, you don’t want to go back to high school because it was a bad time but something is wrong.”

I wish that after the end – after I lost my mind – that I would have called Ariana and said, ‘I want to let you know that I said some really hurtful things. It’s probably going to end the friendship,’” Kent admitted on Shay’s podcast. “It wasn’t my style. I can’t even believe that I didn’t do that because I tell myself that if I say things behind your back, I will say them to your face.”

Kent remembered continuing to be close to Madix while he was filming, adding, “I was still supporting him, always knowing that I meant what I said. Thinking in my mind, I divided. I was like, ‘But that had to do with the show.’ I was mad at him about the show and I wasn’t mad at him. I don’t regret what I said. I regret not giving him the heads up.”

Madix responded to this Vanderpump Rules release news of the remake without acknowledging any of the actors’ failings.

“Vanderpump rules, you’ll always be that girl 💖 I was up until 4am looking for all the right pictures and the right words, but no post or caption could cover it all. I am so grateful to be a part of such an amazing culture,” Madix wrote on Instagram on Tuesday. “I feel at peace with closing this chapter and excited for all that lies ahead.”
