Nine family members died in Nuseirat when Israel attacked Gaza Israel-Palestine Conflicts News

Residential buildings, public centers and infrastructure have been attacked across Gaza, as the UN accuses Israel of denying 82 out of 91 attempts to deliver aid to the north.

Israeli forces targeted residential buildings, community centers and infrastructure across the Gaza Strip, killing at least nine family members in the Nuseirat refugee camp.

Reporting from central Gaza’s Deir el-Balah, Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud said on Thursday that Israel’s underground forces are conducting a military operation to expand the Netzarim Corridor – a 6.5-kilometer (4-mile) stretch of land established in the middle of the enclave. The Israeli army divides the north from the south of Gaza.

“By doing this, it carried out this attack to destroy the remaining residential buildings … that the claims of the Israeli army are being used as an observation point for Palestinian fighters,” Mahmoud reported, adding that eyewitnesses said there was a large number of people inside these houses.

In northern Gaza, Israeli planes carried out airstrikes, targeting the remaining buildings in the city of Beit Lahiya, killing at least four people, Mahmoud said.

In the south, at least four people were killed on Thursday morning when Israeli warplanes attacked a group of Palestinians near a refugee camp in the town of Asan, east of the city of Khan Younis, according to the Wafa news agency.

The Israeli military has not commented on the latest attack. It often says that its activities are aimed at Hamas and that it makes efforts to avoid civilian casualties.

The United Nations said earlier this month that more than 70 percent of those confirmed to have been killed in Gaza were women and children.

Preventive aid

The UN agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA) said on social media X that the Israeli authorities rejected 82 out of 91 attempts by the UN to deliver aid to northern Gaza between the beginning of October and November 25.

Israel also blocked nine other attempts to deliver aid to the north of the area, which has been under siege by Israeli forces and shelling for more than 50 days.

“Survival conditions are deteriorating for the estimated 65,000-75,000 people who remain there,” UNRWA said on Thursday.

Israel’s war in Gaza has killed at least 44,282 Palestinians and injured 104,880 others as of October 7, 2023.

There has been no progress in reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, but the United States – Israel’s main political and military ally – has said it will make new efforts to achieve one.

“In the coming days, the United States will make another push with Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, Israel and others to reach an agreement to end the fighting in Gaza when the hostages are released and the war ends without Hamas,” said US President Joe Biden. on Wednesday.

A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, in the same conflict, came into effect on Wednesday and will be held on Thursday.
