California man, who disappeared 25 years ago, to reunite with family after headline photo

A California man who was reported missing in 1999 has finally been reunited with his family after his sister saw his photo in a USA Today article in April of this year, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office announced on Facebook.

LCSO received a call from a woman who told Deputy Derek Kennemore that she was sent the article and believed the man in the article to be her brother, who had not been heard from since he disappeared 25 years ago.

A GoFundMe that was founded by the man’s sister explains that the family has been looking for him since August 1999, when he disappeared without anyone knowing.

“My name is Marcie. My little brother, Tommy, has been missing since August of 1999. He disappeared without a trace. Not even his car was found,” wrote Marcella (Marcie) Nasseri.

Nasseri asked Kennemore for help in identifying the man, who was hospitalized in the Los Angeles area, according to the sheriff’s office.

When Kennemore got help, he learned the man had been transferred to another hospital in July.

The man, who did not say anything, was later confirmed to be Nasseri’s brother after an investigator with the Los Angeles Police Department’s missing persons unit was able to obtain his fingerprints.

Nasseri was overjoyed to find this, saying that he had always been in pursuit of “unknown fossils.”

“On 11-22-2024, I tracked down a living person. This person’s photo was published in USA News, asking the public if anyone could identify the man in this photo, who was found sitting on the side of the road in South LA. Long story short, with fingerprints, a match was made. this time I’ve been searching for unidentified remains how happy I am to find him alive!,” according to GoFundMe.

He goes on to explain that he is very far from where his brother lives and he is looking for any help that will help him until he is referred to doctors as he learns to do everyday things again.

“I’m 600 miles away in Lassen County. He’s in Lynwood, California. I’ve started a possible medical referral to the Lassen County facility. All we know is he’s just learned to walk, can eat normal food, and is going. I don’t have money for things we need, I’m sending him used men’s clothes, a set of pencils, and a pad scratching because he likes to draw This is all I can post now,” he wrote in the interview.
