Steve Kerr Defends Steph Curry’s Minutes Strategy After Brooklyn Loss

The Warriors lost 128-120 to the Nets on Monday night, the team’s second straight loss and coach Steve Kerr has spoken to Steph Curry’s minutes.

Curry had a team-high 28 points in 29 minutes, but the team fell apart in his absence and allowed an 18-point comeback.

Like every game, Steph went to the bench with 4:33 left in the third and the Dubs went up by nine points.

When he looked back with 7:29 left in the fourth quarter, the Nets were up 25-11 – which means that even Steph couldn’t overcome it.

After some preventable losses, Kerr was asked about Curry’s minutes as he averaged less than 30 minutes per game this year.

“We usually pencil him in at 32 [minutes]and we like to keep it close to that number,” Kerr told reporters. “We were able to give him a good rest in the first half because the second unit was playing really well.

“I don’t like to run him the whole fourth quarter and I like him to come close, and that means if we can give him those last eight minutes – usually, I feel good about that. But at that time, Brooklyn was slow, and we couldn’t slow them down.”

Kerr’s comments are quite interesting, given how difficult it was for Golden State to shut down opponents in the second half.

But it doesn’t look like the controversial coach has any plans to change his strategy right now when it comes to Steph’s playing time.

The Warriors sit at 12-5 and are in second place in the West, despite back-to-back losses.

Their next game will be a big test against OKC, who beat the Dubs earlier this month.
