Mark Cuban Reveals Why He’s Not Going to Mavs Road Games
Mark Cuban says the NBA’s small size is the reason he no longer attends Dallas road games.
The billionaire owner held a large stake in the Mavs, until he sold 72.3 percent of that to the Adelson and Dumont families in December 2023. He now owns only 27 percent.
Cuban was not on the second row behind the bench in away games and said it was due to league rules.
“The NBA was really petty and said I can’t sit behind the bench anymore,” Cuban told the Stein Line.
When Cuban sold the team, there was some kind of expectation that he would continue to run basketball operations.
However, Mavs GM Nico Harrison was clearly reporting to new owner Patrick Dumont when Dallas reached the NBA Finals last season.
Cuban spoke honestly about adapting to change.
“It just kept going up,” Cuban said. “I’ve had moments of both—times where I was like, ‘Okay, this is what we need to do, but I’m not the boss.’ And then there have been other times when I said: ‘I’m glad I’m not the boss.’ “
He added: “The only time I regret it is when the NBA upsets me. Maybe it would have been different if we lost and things didn’t go well but things went well. It’s not a straightforward thing for the Mavs. I can’t go to NBA meetings anymore and give them sh*t for being small.”
