Marina Alex is retiring after more than a decade on the LPGA Tour
Add Marina Alex to the list of LPGA Tour retirees this year, the two-time winner calling it a career after finishing tied for 12th at the CME Group Tour Championship last weekend in Naples, Florida.
The New Jersey native and Vanderbilt alum, who made his LPGA Tour debut in 2013, won the Portland Classic in 2018 and the Palos Verdes Championship in 2022.
Alex, 34, has amassed $5.0 million in career earnings, according to the LPGA, including $720,000 this season, when he had 10 top-25 finishes and five top-10s. He had 83 top-25 finishes in his career and 35 top-10 finishes.
Alex’s final round of competition was Sunday’s 6-under-par 66 which left her tied with Jennifer Kupcho, France’s Celine Boutier and South Korea’s Jin Young Ko. They were 10 shots behind winner Jeeno Thitikul of Thailand.
“It’s always hard to say goodbye,” said Alex. “I know this is what I want, and it’s the right decision for me right now. That doesn’t change the fact that this is the life I’ve built for the past 11 years here, and golf has been around since I started singing. I’ve been a kid. We’re about to enter a new world of self-awareness, but change will never be easy.
Also playing their final LPGA Tour rounds on Sunday were Lexi Thompson and Ally Ewing, who have announced they are calling it quits. Thompson finished tied for 49th at 2 under, while Ewing finished just behind Alex in a tie for 16th at 11 under.
Other players who will be retiring from competitive golf this year are Catriona Matthew of Scotland, So Yeon Ryu of South Korea, Angela Stanford, Mariajo Uribe of Colombia, Laura Davies of England, IK Kim of South Korea, Amy Olson, Gerina Piller and Brittany Lincicome.
