Cher blasts directors of two films she ‘didn’t like’
Along with her newly released memoir, Cher takes a step back to reflect on her incredible career, spill secrets and address rumors that she was “difficult” to work with.
In a new interview with the Sunday Times, the “Goddess of Pop,” spoke candidly about the two projects she worked on as an actress where she didn’t consult with the film’s directors.
“There are only two directors I don’t like: Peter Bogdanovich,” with whom he worked on the picture, “Mask,” and “the guy from ‘The Muppets,'” referring to Frank Oz, who was once slated to direct. his 1990 film, “Mermaids.”
CHER ‘SHOCKED’ WHEN GETTING LEGAL NAME YEARS AFTER BIRTH CERTIFICATE MISTAKE.
Referring to Oz, Cher recalled giving the finale on the set of the 1990 film, which was eventually directed by Richard Benjamin.
“I said, either you’re going or I’m going, which is a shame because he’s a great producer, but he had a thing for me,” said Cher. “He would go, ‘At least my wife loves me!’
A representative for Oz did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
Cher also slept with the late Bogdanovich, who she worked with in 1985. Before her death in 2022, Cher was “the hardest actress” she had ever worked with.
“He was a hole,” Cher said of Bogdanovich. “He wasn’t nice to the girls in the movie and he was too arrogant. I really didn’t like him.”
“She didn’t trust anyone, especially men,” Bogdanovich told Vulture in 2019, of her leading lady. “She doesn’t like men. That’s why she was named Cher: She rejected her father’s name. Sarkisian,” he added. Born Cherilyn Sarkisian, the singer officially requested an official name change in 1979 to just Cher.
But Bogdanovich was able to admit that Cher’s contempt for him was because she despised him.
“He always looked like someone was cheating on him. I came to him one day; I said, ‘You’re stressing me out, sitting down and acting like you’re stealing or something,'” Bogdanovich recalled.
Cher recalled her time performing differently, telling the Sunday Times, “He comes over and says, ‘Cher, where do you think we should film this scene?’ And I say, well, the kitchen is working fine, why don’t we do that again The next morning he comes to the set, eating an egg sandwich, and starts yelling that he won’t let me direct this film; he can take me out anytime,” he recounted.
“Oh, he was a pig.”

“Ask everyone: He’s really easy to work with,” Cher continued.
“I can’t be a judge of what I say, because it’s okay to do what the director wants until you need to talk. [Streep] if the director wants you to do something you don’t like, you say: yes, yes, yes, I will do that. Then you do it your way and they don’t notice. I worked with Bob Altman, Mike Nichols, Norman Jewison…. They are really good directors that I respect. I know when to listen.”
