Lori Chavez-DeRemer headed to Mar-a-Lago after stint as Labor Secretary: sources
The House Republican nominated for Labor Secretary is headed to Mar-a-Lago later this week, two sources told Fox News Digital.
Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, R-Ore., who recently lost re-election in a close race with Democrat Janelle Bynum, is being considered to lead the Labor Department, according to Politico.
His visit down to President-elect Trump’s home in Florida could mean he is a strong contender for the role.
Chavez-DeRemer’s nomination is backed by the Teamsters Union, Trump’s allies who were trying to appear in court earlier this year in their bid to expand the Republican base ahead of the 2024 election.
TRUMP’S FORMER EDUCATION SECRETARY REFLECTS ON PRESIDENT-ELECT’S NEW CHOICE
He will be the fourth current House Republican to be appointed to the new Trump administration after House GOP Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik, RN.Y., and Reps. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., and Matt Gaetz, R-Fla.
But unlike others, his elevation to Trump’s Cabinet would not remove the GOP’s House majority.
When reached by Fox News Digital, a spokesperson for Chavez-DeRemer would not comment directly on the congressional travel plans but shared her statement about the Teamsters’ endorsement of the role.
“I would be delighted to have the opportunity to support President Trump’s mission to empower and grow our nation’s workforce. Hardworking Americans finally have a way of life with the president, and I will work tirelessly to support his incredible efforts to rebuild the Republic into a party. The party of American workers,” he said.
