Support for Trump filled the weekend in sports as athletes performed dances for the president-elect

The NFL, UFC, boxing and college football played a critical role and there is one underlying theme throughout the sports landscape.

It wasn’t a one-on-one battle or matchup on the gridiron. Instead, it was President-elect Donald Trump and the dance he performed during his campaign rallies. Trump’s support may have come from sports in the days leading up to the election, but it really exploded over the weekend.

While there was no Trump dance in Jake Paul’s fight with Mike Tyson, Paul and Tyson have both voiced their support for him in the past. Paul even stood him in the 2024 election and celebrated his victory after the results.

Trump’s dance was on full display at UFC 309.

With the president-elect sitting side by side with his future Cabinet nominees, Jon Jones defeated Stipe Miocic by a landslide and followed Trump’s departure. He pointed at Trump and then gave Trump his UFC Heavyweight Championship to hold.

Trump’s golf swing and dance moves were demonstrated by Detroit Lions linebackers Za’Darius Smith and Malcolm Rodriguez on Sunday. Both players made these moves after sacking Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Mac Jones.

Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers did a dance move after scoring a touchdown against the Miami Dolphins.

“I’ve seen everybody do it,” Bowers said, per USA Today. “I watched a UFC fight last night and Jon Jones did it. I like watching UFC, so I saw it and thought it was cool.”

Tennessee Titans wide receivers Calvin Ridley and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine did a celebratory dance against the Minnesota Vikings after a touchdown.

College football never seemed to have a freshman doing a dance move. But last week, it was full of sports.

UFC President Dana White was asked why he thinks fighters are gravitating toward the president-elect.

“When you see the election, the whole country is all about Trump right now,” White said. “He won every state; the only states he won (Democratic candidate Harris) were the ones where you didn’t need an ID to vote. It would be fun if you needed an ID. I feel like the whole country … I feel like somebody hit the reset button.

“However this election went, everybody was hoping it would blow up either way, so there would be no more bulls—. What I think is, everybody is tired of bulls—. We’re all tired. We’re all tired. We just want to live our lives and move on our businesses and raise our families and do all that—, and hopefully all of these things will slow down in the next four years.”
