Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic celebrated their year-end ATP Doubles No. 1 presented by PIF ending Friday afternoon at the Nitto ATP Finals.
The Salvadoran-Croatian side will look to clinch the season finale later in the evening when they face home favorites Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori. But first they raised the cup to end the year.
Arevalo said: “I want to start by thanking Mate for playing with me and trusting this team. This is something we have achieved with a lot of work, many hours on the field and we are very happy. It’s definitely a dream, it’s a goal when you start the season to end your season here in Turin, at the Nitto ATP Finals. No. 1 year-end pick, I think is a plus.
“I also want to thank my team and Mate’s team. I think even though tennis looks like it’s an individual sport, I don’t think anyone gets this far on their own. I think we all need a team and I want to thank my team… They really care about me. And my wife, she has been very supportive of traveling with me around the world with two children, which is not easy.”
Pavic said: “I want to thank Marcelo for a good year. Everyone plays at the beginning of the year dreaming of this, so to be here, to lift this trophy, obviously that’s why we play all year. I really want to thank my team, my coach, my family at home, and my wife. Everyone is involved in all of that throughout the year. Everyone is very supportive. They are all part of this success, of course.”
Arevalo and Pavic formed a new partnership this year and it has been successful with four trophies, decorated with their victory at Roland Garros. They also won the ATP Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati, Hong Kong and Geneva.
