“Obviously, the Democratic Party has missed the mark on some things, and we need to look at that honestly in the months, weeks and years to come to try to get this message and this party heard by more people than the other side. It’s not happening now.”

“Democrats spend more time trying not to offend anyone than being brutally honest about the challenges that many Americans face,” he said in an interview with The New York Times. “I have two little girls. I don’t want them to be run over on the playground by a man or a former male athlete, but, as a Democrat, I should be afraid to say that.

“I stand firm in my belief that there is a need for women’s sports to be competitive and put restrictions on the participation of those who have the unfair advantages associated with male birth,” he said in a statement. “I am also a strong supporter of civil rights for all Americans, including transgender rights.

“I will fight for the rights and safety of all citizens as I have always fought. These two views are not mutually exclusive, and we may not even agree on them. However, there are many who shout from the left on social media.

“I think I’m not that scared myself because I think we live in a very progressive place. We’re incredibly privileged in our place in the world and health and finances and all these things, but I think the fear goes to people in general that they’re going to be really affected. I think of all my trans friends and people I know and trans kids.

“I think about the possibility of many people being displaced if that happens and just like the chaos that will be sown is too much.”
