Firefighters in Scottsdale, Arizona, responded to an unusual call Wednesday after a driver saw a large snake crawling out from under his truck.
Aaron Ricks, who was driving from Mesa to Scottsdale, called 911 after he stopped and saw a large snake — identified as a boa constrictor — sticking its head out from under his truck, FOX 10 Phoenix reported.
“I thought it was a grocery bag or some kind of plastic. Maybe I knocked over something,” he told the outlet. “So I went back to the truck to see what it was, and I was shocked to see this old snake looking down and looking right back at me.”
Police transferred Ricks to the Scottsdale Fire Department and firefighters responded to the call.

Once they got to Ricks’ truck, firefighters said crews “carefully removed the skid plate from the bottom of the truck” so they could get in and remove the boa constrictor.
The snake was not injured when it was removed, and was transferred to the Arizona Herpetological Society, the department said.

Mason Brill of the Phoenix Herpetological Sanctuary told FOX 10 the snake may have suffered minor burns from being so close to the truck, but was not seriously injured.
“A lot of times when animals get into engines, it’s never good,” Brill said. “They’re either strapped or cooked, so this girl isn’t hurt. Maybe she’s got a little burn right here, but nothing too bad.”

If the snake is someone’s pet, which the fire department has suggested based on its appearance, Brill said they can contact the sanctuary to arrange a pickup.
If the owner does not come forward, the snake will spend its entire life in the sanctuary if it is not found.
