Miami-Dade police are investigating a severed human head that washed up on a popular South Florida beach
A human head washed up on a popular South Florida beach on Nov. 12, authorities said.
Miami-Dade police are investigating after a Key Biscayne, Florida beach worker was found decapitated early Tuesday morning behind the Key Colony II Ocean Sound condominiums, according to multiple reports.
Police were unable to identify the details from memory and did not know the age or gender, CBS Miami reported.

The cause of the beheading remains under investigation, Miami-Dade Police Detective Andre Martin told NBC News.
“We haven’t been able to determine how the head was separated from the body, but there are a few theories that work,” Martin told NBC.

Miami-Dade and local authorities are awaiting more information on the identity of the deceased. However, Martin told People Magazine that he suspects the remains are of an older male but is awaiting confirmation.
“Right now we don’t know if it’s possible,” Martin said. “This could be an accident or a missing person, it’s too early to say the circumstances.”

The medical examiner and homicide officers are working together to identify the victim.
This incident is currently not being treated as a homicide.
