The NBC News host confronts a top Democrat about whether he was ‘obliged to come up with more’ about Biden

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, DN.Y., faced an old cliché during an interview Sunday where he declared that President Biden is the best candidate to challenge President-elect Donald Trump.

“What do you say to Americans who believe that you and other top Democrats have misled them?” NBC’s Kristen Welker asked Jeffires after she played a clip of him from February 2024 on “The View” saying Biden was “the strongest candidate” to run for president.

“Well, Joe Biden was the current president at the time. He was the candidate at the time, and I was supporting him at the time, and it was the right thing to do, based on the fact that the current president made the decision that he was going to run,” Jeffries said, responding to the clip.

Jeffries added that he wants to look forward, rather than backward, and focus on bringing the American people back after Trump’s victory.

Welker continued, “Do you believe you had an obligation to come forward with what you saw behind closed doors about President Biden?”

“What I saw behind closed doors was a president who was working hard to do things to get the American people back on infrastructure, on lowering the high prices of life-saving drugs, on bringing jobs back to the United States. America,” Jeffries replied.

The NBC News host similarly confronted Sen. Chuck Schumer, D.N.Y., in his clip insisting that concerns about Biden’s sanity were “right-wing propaganda.”

“His brain is very good. It’s fine. It’s as good as it’s been in years. All this right-wing propaganda that his brain is down is wrong,” Schumer said in February 2024.

When asked what he would say to Americans who think they’ve been misled by top Democrats, Schumer said, “We haven’t. Let’s look at President Biden. He’s had an amazing record. The legislation we’ve passed, one of the most important pieces of legislation since Lyndon Johnson’s super-public, has put 235 judges, a record , and he is a patriot.”

Welker then asked Schumer if he was confident that Biden could win a second term.

“Well, I’m not going to speculate. Like I said, I think his record is phenomenal, and he’s going to go down in history as a really great president,” Schumer replied.
