A Texas woman asks others to do ‘Dry January’ with her and fails miserably

Like many Americans, Harley Hurosky from Texas decided to participate in the “Dry January” campaign and give up alcohol for a month after overindulging during the holidays.

“Eating and drinking too much during the holidays made me feel really low,” Harley told Fox News Digital. “So, I thought that ending the year with a goal of feeling better physically would be a smart move.”

Hurosky, who lives in Houston, hoped to build a circle of fans who would not only cheer him on but join him in his sobriety break. That didn’t really happen.

AMONG PROFIT CONCERNS, WOULD MORE DRINKERS RESPOND TO AVAILABLE AND AVAILABLE BEVERAGES?

“Normally, I thought my friends and family would rally around me and pitch in to support me morally,” Hurosky said. “It turns out that the only thing they’re committed to is sitting comfortably on the sidelines with cocktails in hand.”

Hurosky decided to record the reactions of those who asked and post their answers on social media. (See the video at the top of this article.)

“My parents made this list because they are reliable when it comes to answering the phone and because I thought their reaction would please them, which they were,” she said.

“I fully expected most of my loved ones to say ‘no,’ especially since asking them to abstain from alcohol for a month seemed like a bold move,” Hurosky said. “But their reactions – both rejection and laughter – is what makes the video so funny.”

The viral video has racked up more than 743,000 views on TikTok since earlier this weekend.

Hurosky is a marketing manager and said he enjoys creating social media sites.

“Honestly, I love this process. It’s so much fun to create and share moments that make people smile or laugh,” he said. “My content tends to focus on relatable, funny situations because that’s how I usually connect with people.”

Hurosky said most of those who inquired are “good people and travel regularly,” so he expects a positive response.

“That’s why I recorded the whole FaceTime,” he continued. “What I didn’t expect was that the most interesting answers would come from my parents. My father, a scoundrel like me, stole the show. I’m sorry for doubting you, Father. You really brought it.”

Hurosky is confident he can make it through January without alcohol.

“This is not the first time I have gone to Dry January. My boyfriend and I successfully completed it last year,” she told Fox News Digital.

“The goal was to lose a few pounds and start a healthy lifestyle.”

Although they managed to cut down on liquid calories last year, Hurosky said the couple “probably overcompensated with food and restaurant meals … Let’s just say the calories we saved by skipping cocktails probably came back in with our delivery orders.”

But he realized other benefits of skipping alcohol.

“We definitely felt better and enjoyed life without the dreaded hangovers,” Hurosky said.

“Dry January didn’t match their vibe.”

“Besides, we proved to ourselves that we can stick to this challenge and go a whole month without drinking, so I can call it a win overall.”
