Maher challenges libertarians to have ‘intellectual integrity’ about California wildfires

Liberal talk show host Bill Maher said that liberals who often create political disasters are silent when Democratic leaders are to blame.

Many California residents, including celebrities, have lost their homes in the Pacific Palisades area as wildfires continue to burn there and elsewhere in Los Angeles County, burning more than 27,000 acres, destroying more than 10,000 buildings and killing at least 25 people, according to local officials. . .

While LA Mayor Karen Bass and California Gov. Gavin Newsom criticized their administration before and during the devastating fire, Maher argued in a TMZ interview that more critics need to speak up and hold liberal leaders accountable.

Talk show host Bill Maher said local Democratic leaders in California must hold other Democrats accountable.

“I have people who want to hold politicians accountable,” Maher said in a press release.

The comedian highlighted that most liberals say, “We don’t have to talk about it now,” describing them as hypocrites.

“It’s funny to hear that coming out of the mouths of the libertarians, because they hate it when the law enforcement says that after a gun tragedy, which they always say after a mass shooting. “This is not the time for politics. ’ And then it never was,” Maher said. “It’s time to talk about it.”

Although he said there are other factors that make some level of disaster inevitable, such as global warming, he stood by his statement that “mistakes” were made.

“Was it always going to be bad? Yes,” Maher said. “Their arguments are not wrong. We are building a city in the worst place to build a city. Global warming is making things hotter and the weather worse. The winds were funny. Yeah, I get all that. And they made a lot of mistakes. .”

Maher added that “If you hold Bush accountable for Katrina” then “you have to have the intellectual integrity to criticize your party when it’s not doing well. And they’ve had a long time to get this right.”

The HBO host reiterated that somehow such tragedies “always seem the worst possible” – a sign that more is expected of leaders.

“I think we should demand better,” argued Maher.
