As a child of the ’80s and a horror fiend, I’m particularly fond of slasher films, a genre popularized by dangerous icons like Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger. The genre reached its peak with the release of Wes Craven’s Shout out in 1996, and fans like myself have been chasing the dragon ever since in hopes that another director could deliver the same mix of humor, horror, and hemoglobin. Now, the unlikely director has done just that, and fans are hoping for the best slasher since Shout out now it can broadcast Thank you on Netflix.

If you watch Thank you On Netflix, you’ll find a true tale about a turkey-loving city still reeling from a Black Friday shopping spree that left three people dead. When the same department store prepares to hold a similar auction the following year, karma comes in the form of a killer wearing a truly terrifying mask designed by John Carver, the first governor of the Plymouth Colony. As the murders get worse than your drunken uncle talking politics, a group of young survivors of the first stake try to stay one step ahead of a vengeful killer who is the only one who has never caught a cold.
If you ever repented Thank you while scrolling through Netflix, you might not notice how different the characters in this movie are. The biggest name is Patrick Dempsey (best known for his acting Grey’s Anatomy), who plays a sheriff trying to save the city from the most brutal dangers it has ever faced. Rounding out the cast are other screen veterans such as Gina Gershon (best known for her performance in It is tied up) and Rick Hoffman (best known for his performance in Samantha Who?) and newcomers like Addison Rae (best known as a popular social media influencer like TikTok).
Besides Dempsey, the other big name involved in this production is director Eli Roth, a horror veteran known for similar gorefests. A hostel. Compared to that franchise, it’s killing inside Thank you they are generally light, making this film a little more accessible to the average Netflix viewer. But Roth knows how to take movie scares to their maximum, as evidenced by a scene involving an oven that’s sure to leave you curled up on your pillow while you watch.
A Scary Heart Meal
Fortunately, the audience did not participate in Roth’s efforts: before Thank you ended up on Netflix, grossing $46.6 million against a $15 million budget. This was enough of a holiday box office to warrant a sequel, and Roth says that Gratitude 2 will be released later this year. Not bad for a bonkers franchise that started with a comedy trailer Roth cut from the Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino horror classic. Mill house.
Surprisingly enough, Thank you managed to impress critics, which is rare when it comes to slashers. On Rotten Tomatoes, this thick piece of turkey-inspired terror has a critical rating of 84 percent. In general, critics have praised the film for its unique blend of comedy and horror and the way it combines artful killing with scenes and dialogues that will leave you laughing.
When I finally looked Thank you on Netflix, I was surprised to find that the critics weren’t exaggerating…this might be the best slasher since Shout outwhich is good because scene after scene is spent biting Wes Craven style. Fortunately, Eli Roth knows how to put it together Shout out-sensitivity like his trademark humor and gory violence. Beyond its quality as a horror film, Thank you Roth is undoubtedly doing his best: the film softens his Hostel films and sharpens the comedy proven by his first film. Cabin Feverwhich makes it easier to please people endlessly than to say, Green Inferno.
