At the height of found footage, low-budget horror films were able to use fictional storytelling techniques, such as this one. Unusual Work or Cloverfield, or taking an old horror story and making it seem new again. in 2008 Self-isolation uses camera footage through the eyes of a story team to place you in the middle of a zombie outbreak, making an old-school survival story seem different by only changing the perspective. Found footage is not a popular format today, and it is debatable how old the films of the period are, but there are a few that are worth watching today, including RECa Spanish-language film that was remade in Hollywood Self-isolation.
There is no Escape
Self-isolation begins with the news team of Angela, a reporter (Jennifer Carpenter), and Scott, a cameraman (Steve Harris), following firefighters as they respond to a call to a building that looks suspiciously like rabies. An old woman, infected with a mysterious virus, attacked the group, which now includes two policemen, before being shot. Soon, we see the exit from the building, including all the windows, sealed by the CDC in a first-person view, turning the act of wrapping plastic up into a gruesome death sentence.
The level of those infected with the virus begins to fill up with nowhere to escape, leading to the majority of them Quarantine’s jump scares and a large number of kills. An attempt to escape the building results in the gunman taking out the occupant, forcing the survivors to try to find a way out, which is a bit confusing. The result robs the film of some of its horror by revealing too much about the origins of the infection in a textbook example of why it’s best to leave the audience wanting more.
A Relic of a Bygone Era
It is impossible to talk about it Self-isolation without talking about the first movie RECone of the most successful Spanish horror movies of all time. Darker than the English-language remake and better paced, the original film is still considered one of the greatest films of all time. Three more followed, and an elaborate tale emerged that eventually included a Vatican conspiracy.
Self-isolationon the other hand, it had one thread, Quarantine 2: The Terminal, that is placed on the plane before death. While the original is superior, even the Hollywood remake is better than many low-budget horror films of the era, despite the weak plot and stumbling third act. In theaters, the film grossed $41 million, making it a success considering the low production budget.
Found footage films are few and far between these days, especially given the diminishing returns of the Paranormal Activity franchise, replacing films like Self-isolation have become relics of a bygone era in pop culture. It is also an example where Hollywood feels the need to remake foreign films, for example, A ring or A grudgecompared to today when movies like Train to Busan they are allowed to hit the stream. Zombie movies have been around for over 60 years, dating back to the sci-fi era Day of the Triffidsand it takes a lot to stand out, but a first-person shooter with no place to run is definitely something different.
