Five Israeli soldiers between the ages of 19 and 23 were killed in the fighting in the northern Gaza Strip.
Eight other soldiers were seriously injured, the military said on Monday. All the soldiers were part of the army of trappers. No other details were provided.
It brings to 840 the number of Israeli soldiers killed since the start of the war in Gaza and fighting the Lebanese army Hezbollah.
The war began with a massacre by Hamas and other Palestinian extremists from the Gaza Strip in Israel on October 7, 2023, which left 1,200 people dead and led to 251 being taken hostage.
Both sides in the conflict claim that there has recently been significant progress in negotiations for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages from Hamas.
However, no breakthrough in months-long mediation efforts has been announced so far.
