A ‘Wheel of Fortune’ contestant is still ‘in shock’ after her surprise participation on the game show
“Wheel of Fortune” host Ryan Seacrest and Vanna White helped make the night of the singles competition a little more special.
On Thursday night, during the show’s 50th anniversary, Seacrest announced that he helped Robin propose to Rhea Mathew, a former “Wheel of Fortune” contestant who entered the competition in October 2023.
“We’re celebrating our 50th anniversary and it actually happened earlier in the week right here on set,” Seacrest announced in a clip uploaded to YouTube.
“Robin, former contestant Rhea’s boyfriend, asked for our help by asking her the big question,” added Vanna.

He explained that with the help of announcer Jim Thornton, they were able to pull off “a little trick, making Rhea think she’s back for Wheel’s 50th anniversary.”

“But look what happened,” White added, before turning to Robin and Rhea’s request.
In the clip, Rhea tackles “Will You Marry Me?” a puzzle.
“You did well,” Thornton told Rhea.
Robin walked across the stage, got down on one knee and asked, “Rhea Susan Mathew, will you marry me?” The contestant seemed shocked and nodded.
“Rhea Susan Mathew, will you marry me?”
The video then cuts to White and Seacrest.
“I think he’s really surprised,” Ryan said.

“Yes, that was very exciting,” said White.
“It’s so fun. I love that we can do that on this show,” Seacrest said.
“You never know what will happen here,” joked White.

“Wheel of Fortune” shared the couple’s special moment on their Instagram account.
“We scream, we cry, we lose our minds over this proposal of a sweet wheel!” write the text.
Rhea commented on the post, writing, “AHHH thank you thank you for making this a reality!!! beyond my wildest dreams!!”

Rhea shared a photo from the proposal on her Instagram and commented that her boyfriend “dropped my jaw doing the sweetest, most complicated thing he’s ever done for me.”

Former “Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak’s daughter, Maggie, spoke to Rhea before the proposal in a video posted on her Instagram page.

“I actually brought someone very special to me today. I brought my boyfriend Robin. He’s one of my biggest supporters. So, I’m really excited to share this magic with him,” Rhea told Maggie, a social media reporter for the game. .

Sajak’s video then shows a look behind the photo with the caption, “The proposal is set?! 2025 is off to a great start!”
