What Noah Wyle Is ‘Unforgiving’ About Seeing Planned ‘ER’ Revival Canceled

After Pitt premiered on Thursday, January 9, Wyle, 53, was asked about how plans to return ER it eventually turned into a whole new show instead.
“That calls into question all kinds of times for this and all different kinds of repetitions. You’re right, the mission was born in 2020 in a time of violence,” Wyle said TVLine on Thursday. “The idea was to look at what happened to the people who were at the forefront, we also look at the number of people who were sick and dying, and to see that there seem to be two different health care systems in this country. our country — for people who have money and insurance, and those who don’t.”

“Those were all issues we were trying to address in the 1990s, when 22 million Americans did not have health insurance and were using emergency rooms as their primary source of health care. Despite being interested ER as it was being renewed, Wyle was excited about doing a new take on the story, adding, “The further we went down that road, the more the point faded into the reunion aspect, the retread aspect and the reboot aspect. So I didn’t regret it when we were forced to respond and figure out how to tell the story in a new way.”
Wyle continued: “In many ways, [not reviving ER] it freed us from the narrative limitations we would have had to adhere to, and respect.”
ERwhich aired from 1994 to 2009, followed the inner life of an emergency room in a fictionalized version of Chicago’s real Cook County Hospital. Wyle put the star aside George Clooney, Julianna Marguiles, Anthony Edwards, Eriq La Salle again Sherry Stringfield (and later John Stamos, Mekhi Pfifer again Linda Cardelliniamong others).

Pitt is described by the streaming service as “a realistic examination of the challenges facing the health care workforce in today’s America as seen through the eyes of leading heroes working in a modern hospital in Pittsburgh.”
Pitt highlights the highs – and lows – of the job while making 15 episodes depicting 15 hours of a single shift.
“[Fellow EP] John [Wells]Max and Warner Brothers were on board trying to use this new broadcast platform, to see if we could tell this story in a more compelling way than we did in the 1990s,” explained Wyle. “It’s more photorealistic than we’ve ever been able to do, and in a more organic, performance-based way. Because you’re no longer in standards and norms and language [barriers]you can literally paint with all the colors on the palette. The question is not ‘What can you show?’ Instead he says, ‘What do you have to show with understanding and taste?’

Wyle found it “really exciting” to bring the new medical drama to life.
“I wanted them to feel the way you’ve been feeling – and the way you’ve been feeling for a long time. Can we make it feel like that again? John once Yana Grebenyuk R. Scott [Gemmill] they were on board with that because they, too, wanted that sense of belonging [last] we had it 15 years ago, when we did this for the first time,” he continued. “The work was great, we had a great time, and we loved each other while doing it, and everyone was respectful. It was all inclusive, and it stood out. And we wanted to see if lightning could strike twice – and, somehow, it already has. “
