Two men were found dead in a remote forest while searching for Sasquatch, also known as Bigfoot, according to authorities in Washington State.
The two men from Portland, Oregon, were found dead after a three-day search on Christmas Day after a family member reported that the pair had not returned from a trip to the Gifford Pinchot National Forest to search for evidence of the furry legend. , living in the forest, two chimpanzees.
The “intense” search involved more than 60 volunteers searching with airplanes and dogs in an area of heavy forest and extremely cold weather, the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
“Both of these deaths appear to be caused by exposure, due to the weather and poor preparation,” said the statement.
The sheriff’s office found the victims’ vehicle near the town of Willard, the statement said, and the investigation refocused on that area. Drones were also used, and a Coast Guard helicopter was called in to help with the search.
Officials have not released the names of the two victims, ages 37 and 59.
Weather in the Cascade Mountains was bitterly cold in the days leading up to and during the search, including snow, sleet and freezing temperatures.
