Charlie Woods makes a hole-in-one at PNC – and the reaction is priceless

Charlie Woods didn’t see it. Really? It’s impossible? He raised his hands.
What about his father? Hmm. Tiger Woods’ back was turned.
It doesn’t matter. And no worries.
Woods’ short hole in one was still good. It was still counting.
One hole? From the 15-year-old son of a 15-time major league champion? Cry. The content gods must really be smiling this holiday season. The ace came on Sunday, during the second and final round of the PNC Championship, the (very familiar) relative event that wraps up golf’s year. On the 174-yard, par-3 4th at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Fla., Charlie Woods swung, his ball bounced three times, and found the bottom of the hole.
The shot looked special at contact, course commentator Jim “Bones” Mackay said on the Golf Channel. “This is a great picture if it’s the right number,” says the longtime singer. And it was. After two practice swings while standing behind the ball and two watching the hole while standing on his rock, Woods’ 7-iron was true.
Only he didn’t hold the ace. The hole is slightly hidden in the tee box. There, Charlie looked up, started to walk to his right – then stopped. He looked confused. He raised his hands with a smile.
Then he smiled.
His friend, Luke Wise, raised his hands behind him.
My father left. He hugged her. It’s difficult. He put his hands on her shoulders and pushed her.
“And guess what? Actually, his father wasn’t looking,” said broadcaster Steve Sands on the radio. “He had to take a break for a second, come out again, hear the roar of the crowd, and Charlie Woods did well in the PNC Championship. … What a moment.”
Indeed. It went down like Charlie’s first hole in one; in particular, in his first appearance at PNC, in 2020, he made his first eagle. The ace also moved Team Woods to the top of the leaderboard in the two-round event.
Walking down the fairway, Charlie had this exchange with Mackay:
Mackay said: “Charlie, your first hole in one. Tell us about the gun.”
Charlie said: “I don’t know. It was a perfect 7 iron, so just hit it. Just 175, the wind is from the left, cut a little 7.”
Mackay said: “Slight cut 7. I had to look good for you in the air. What a pleasure to do that in front of your father and all these people?”
Charlie said: “It was great. I didn’t think it came in. I didn’t believe anyone until I went up there to see it.”
Said Mackay: “Good shot.”
Charlie said: “Thank you.”
On the hole, Charlie teed up the ball on the right, greeted the crowd quickly, then adjusted his ball marker. There was also the matter of the hole-in-one business to be reviewed as well.
Golf station cameras and microphones captured this conversation:
Tiger said to Charlie: “You’re buying.”
Said Sam Woods, Woods’ daughter asking her father: “Are you buying?”
Tiger said: “You are buying.” He should buy to make one hole.”
Said Charlie: “I’m broke.”
Broadcaster Dan Hicks said: “Charlie says he has no money. He’s only 15, but maybe it’ll be milkshakes.”
