John Daly’s ‘good thing’ to do is to hit a hard shot with an iron

We all fought for our ball to hit from time to time. Sometimes, our swipes go wack and we just can’t seem to find a face. And when it does, it can feel like you’ll never shoot again.
This, of course, is not true. While it may feel like solid shots are a thing of the past, there is actually good golf in your future. Sometimes all you need to get out of your funk is to make things as simple as possible.
In the video below, John Daly explains a simple trick you can use to make sure you’re making strong connections.
Daly’s strong communication strategy
It is often easier to find the sweet spot when hitting a short pitch than when making a full swing. So the next time you’re struggling to make a solid contact, use pitch techniques that shoot with your full flow.
“Let’s cut the club short,” Daly said. “I just squeeze it and hit it normal – like a chip, almost. The swing gets a little shorter, but the ball will be more solid because the shaft is a little stiffer and the club is a little shorter. So, your chances of hitting the tee are much better than trying to hit an eight iron in the heel of thinking that will make you beat it for a long time.”
The longer you swing, the more time it takes for something to sink in. By slowing down your swing, you reduce the amount of time that something goes wrong – and increase your chances of hitting the ball hard.
“The best thing to do is that I’m always told that amateurs are beaten by three quarter shots,” he said. “Teasing down and then hitting it is normal.”
The next time you find yourself struggling to make strong connections, take Daly’s advice. With a short swing, you are almost guaranteed to hit the ball better than a full swing.
