A magnitude 3.8 earthquake rattled parts of northeastern Maine on Monday morning, with residents as far away as Boston felt aftershocks, officials said.
This earthquake occurred about 6.5 miles southeast of Nork, Maine, just before 10:30 am, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS), which initially reported a magnitude of 3.1.
“Today’s M3.8 near Bar Harbor, Maine, reminds us that earthquakes are not uncommon but not felt along the Atlantic Seaboard,” the USGS wrote in X.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Caribou, Maine, said there was no tsunami threat.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

NWS Boston, about 65 miles south of YORK, asked residents if they felt any tremors.
Other residents in New Hampshire and Rhode Island also reported and called him.
The USGS said New England, and to the south of the Long Island, Ny, had felt a small earthquake and many people were injured from the hurricanes.

“Devastating earthquakes strike somewhere in the region every few decades, and smaller earthquakes are felt about twice a year,” the USGS said. “The Boston area was damaged three times within 28 years in the mid-1700’s, and New York City was damaged in 1737 and 1884.”
