NHL Player Anthony Richard Takes a Skate to the Face in a Freak Accident
NHL player Anthony Richard involved in a freak accident on the ice while taking a skate to the face.
As the New York Rangers face off against the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday, January 23, Rangers defenseman. Andre Miller he kicked Flyers forward Richard, 28, in the face.
In the replays that have been circulating online, fans can watch the moment the skate hits Richard in the face.
“Look, he’s behind him,” said one broadcaster before expressing his shock at the incident. “Oh boy. Ohhh.”
Richard quickly got off the ice and started to hold his face before help arrived.
Despite the terrifying moment, which was caught on tape, it appears that Richard was not badly cut or injured in the game. He managed to get up and slide back to the bench on his own.
As for Miller, 25, he showed good sportsmanship by sliding into Richard to make sure he was okay. It is said that he also apologized for the accident.
This incident happened when Richard was playing his eighth game with the Flyers this season. After a foot injury on December 10, 2024, the hockey player was forced to miss 13 games to recover.
Throughout the recovery process, Richard was always hopeful that he would be able to get back on the ice.
“I’ve been waiting for that call for a couple of months,” he told Philadelphia Flyers reporters on Thursday. “With the way I was playing, I was happy to get another chance.”
Richard promised before the game that he would “play for me” and “make sure they remember me as they end up injured and I play well.”
“I’ll just try to play my game and have a first half and get back to where I was,” he added. “I’m glad it’s behind me and my body feels good.”
Coach John Tortorella also expressed his confidence in Richard before the game at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
“He’s fast,” Tortorella, 66, shared with Flying Fish Hockey. “We have lost [Ryan Poehling] and I can see right away with our team if you lose that kind of momentum in the middle, it affects your team. “
Although the Rangers beat the Flyers 6-1, the Philadelphia team will put on their skates again and face the New York Islanders on Friday, January 24. Richard is expected to play again after escaping a serious injury.
