Horror isn’t a genre you usually associate with music, although there is some killer music out there, covering the classics as well. The Rocky Horror Picture Show and new features such as Anna and the Apocalypse. The only problem with horror musicals, however, is that they tend to focus more on Broadway-style bites than bloodshed. If you’re like me I’ve been wanting to complete a combination of tunes and fear, you’re in luck: Repo! The Genetic Opera now streaming for free on Tubi.

Repo layout! The Genetic Opera

Based on the musical of the same name, Repo! The Genetic Opera we are set in a dark future where most of humanity has been wiped out due to widespread organ failure. The brutal company GeneCo will transplant organs to those with money, which has managed to save lives while also creating a culture of hedonistic body replacement. But if someone misses a payment, these organs can be confiscated again, and when GeneCo’s founder receives a dangerous diagnosis, it puts him on a collision course with his Repo Man that will change everything.

The cast of Repo! The Genetic Opera it’s small but full of familiar faces, including a surprise appearance by Paris Hilton and even a cameo by Joan Jett. Our main female character is played by Spy Kids Alexa Vegas veteran, and horror icon Bill Moseley headlines one of GeneCo’s unearthed failsons. Meanwhile, the titular Repo is played by Buffy the Vampire Slayer The legend is Anthony Stewart Head, and the dying CEO is played by Paul Sorvino, who hasn’t been a good scene stealer since Baz Luhrmann. Romeo+Juliet.

Cult Failure

Apart from this stacked cast, Repo! The Genetic Opera it was a box office bomb thanks in large part to its limited theatrical release. Against a budget of $8.5 million, the movie grossed only $188,126 (no, that’s not a typo). Fortunately, the film found new life on DVD and Blu-Ray, and has since garnered a strong cult following that many have compared to it. The Rocky Horror Picture Showsome weird horror music that has become popular over time.

The critics certainly didn’t know what to do Repo! The Genetic Opera: On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has only a 37 percent critical score. In general, critics praised the film for its style but derided it as poor and unfounded for its narrative. Notably, however, the movie has a 73 percent audience rating on Popcornmeter, which shows how it resonates with mainstream audiences rather than critics (who, historically, are more critical of horror movies).

Now, it’s time to answer the question you’ve probably been screaming at your screen: why heck I recommend you watch Repo! The Genetic Operaa movie that can’t even gross $200,000 at the box office and is generally panned by critics? For one thing, the music is surprisingly catchy. That might not sound like much, but considering how much the lyrics to “Things You See in Graveyards” stay in my head without being rented, I can’t help but recommend this movie to other horror fans looking for a new ear bag. candy.

Moreover, when Repo! The Genetic Opera it has terrible performances (Paris Hilton deservedly won the Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Supporting Actress), and some memorably wonderful ones. Paul Sorvino is able to give great line readings and sing killer tunes while chewing every space he can find, and I’ve never found him more engaging than this talented actor. As for Anthony Stewart Head, of course in a wonderful way beneficial a Buffy his fan to see him abandon his library staid to play against type as a type of hitman with a heart of gold.

Finally, as a horror fan, I have to recommend Repo! The Genetic Opera by trying something different. This is a genre full of tired tropes and store-worn ideas…like, how many times do I have to care about teenagers being hunted in the woods or killer sharks terrorizing a small town? Repo! it takes a lot of twists and turns that don’t always connect, but it has the distinction of being completely different…the kind of ambitious horror freakshow splatterfest that we might never see another director attempt to create.

REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA UPDATE THE RESULT

Will you find Repo! The Genetic Opera like I did, or will you want the Repo Man to come take your eyes off after watching? You’ll never know until you stream it for free on Tubi. After realizing that you will never see something so strange again, however, you may be left with an emptiness inside of you that even GeneCo can’t fill.
