The 2025 Oscars will celebrate and honor the year’s best films and performances, as well as those affected by the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles.

The 97th Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, March 2, at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. Although the date of the event remains the same, the Academy CEO Bill Kramer and the President of the Academy Janet Yang teased that this year’s show might look different after the LA wildfires affected thousands across the region, including many celebrities.

“We are devastated by the impact of the fire and the great loss that many in our community are experiencing. The Academy has always been a unifying force in the film industry, and we are committed to standing together in the face of adversity,” Kramer and Yang said in a January 13 joint statement, noting that the Oscars voting period has been extended.

“In addition, as we want to be sensitive to the infrastructure and sleeping needs of the region in the next few weeks, it is important that we make some changes to our schedule of events, which we believe will be supported by our industry,” the statement continued. “Our members always talk about how important it is for us to come together as a community, we are determined to use this opportunity to celebrate our strong and compassionate industry. We also look forward to honoring our frontline workers who helped with the fires, recognizing those affected, and encouraging people to join the Academy in supporting relief efforts.
