Trump vows ‘a new era of national prosperity,’ says ‘America’s decline’ in inaugural address

WASHINGTON, DC — President Trump said “a wave of change is sweeping the country,” telling the American people during his inaugural address on Monday that he is “hopeful” that America is beginning a “new era of national prosperity,” while declaring that the country’s “decline is over.”

Trump addressed the nation on Monday after being sworn in for the second time as the 47th president of the United States.

“America’s golden age begins now,” Trump said in his inaugural address. “From this day forward, our country will prosper and be respected all over the world. We will be the envy of all nations, and we will no longer allow ourselves to be exploited.”

“Every day of the Trump administration, I’m going to put America first,” Trump said.

Trump vowed that US “sovereignty will be restored, our security will be restored. The scales of justice will be rebalanced. The cruel, violent and unjust weapons of the Department of Justice and our government will end. And our priority will be to create a nation that is proud, prosperous and free.”

Trump has promised not to use the government to go after political opponents, saying it is something he knows about, referring to his claims of prosecution by the Biden administration.

“But first, we have to be honest about the challenges we face,” Trump said. “Although there are many, they will be wiped out by this great push that the world is now seeing in the United States of America.”

But, the president said in his first remarks to the nation as the 47th president, “our government is facing a crisis of trust.”

“My recent election is a mandate to completely and utterly reverse the evil betrayal and all these many betrayals that have occurred, and to restore to the people their faith, their wealth, their democracy, and their freedom from now on, America’s decline is over,” Trump said.

The President delivered his remarks in the Capitol Rotunda on Monday as an arctic blast hit the nation’s capital, with frigid temperatures forcing the opening ceremony to be held indoors for the first time in four decades.

Trump, who won the Electoral College and the popular vote, defeating now-Vice President Kamala Harris by a landslide, vowed that his second term would usher in “America’s golden age.”

Trump was running against then-President Biden, who was seeking re-election, until July 2024. But after the two debated for the first time, and after Biden’s poor performance, the incumbent was pressured by Democratic insiders to suspend his bid for the presidency. .

Biden made the announcement on social media and endorsed Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee in his place, putting his vice president at the top of the ticket.

During the event, Trump was showing a chart that highlighted the increase in illegal immigration under the Biden-Harris administration. As he turned toward the chart, he was struck by a bullet that pierced the upper part of his right ear by the now-murderer, Thomas Matthew Crooks.

Weeks later, in September, another would-be assassin hid in the bushes at the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida. The gunman, Ryan Wesley Routh, had an AK-47 rifle pointed at the fence towards Trump while he was playing golf. Trump was taken to the golf course by US Secret Service agents, who was unharmed.
