President-elect Trump vowed on Sunday to release long-held government records on the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy.
Trump made this pledge to the crowd during the Victory Rally in Washington, DC, at the 20,000-seat Capital One Arena, telling supporters that it was the start of efforts to increase government visibility.
“As a first step in restoring transparency and accountability to government, we will also change the classification of government documents,” Trump said.
“And in the coming days, we will make public the remaining records regarding the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, his brother Robert Kennedy, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,” he continued. “All will be released.”

During his first administration, Trump had promised to release all the files related to John F. Kennedy, but an undisclosed amount of material remains less than sixty years after Kennedy’s assassination on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas.
After complaints from the CIA and FBI, Trump blocked the release of hundreds of records. Trump said at the time that the potential damage to US national security, law enforcement or foreign affairs “is so great that it outweighs the public interest in immediate disclosure.”

In December 2022, President Biden released a number of documents related to the assassination, although Biden, as Trump had done before, said some documents were withheld for national security purposes.
