Houston Texans linebacker Kris Boyd stunned NFL audiences on Saturday when he threw his helmet and shoved his special teams coach after the first play of the game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Boyd was able to sack Chiefs player Nikko Remgio to set up the opening drive. He stole the ball that only the Chiefs had scored. He couldn’t control his emotions and ran to the side taking off his hat and pushed Frank Ross to the ground.

He spoke about the incident after the game.
“I got the ball out,” Boyd said. “And as I stand up, I look at the screen, I see nothing but white and they’re all pointing that way. So I was like, ‘Oh yeah, we have the ball, too. Turnover.’ And I just turned around.”
Boyd thought Houston had figured out the problem. There was also a penalty flag on the field as he was disciplined by the helmet.
“I was so happy, I did something I shouldn’t have done. I learned from it,” said Boyd. “Wear my hat.”

Boyd said he apologized to the team after the incident and held no grudge against Ross.
“He told me, ‘Hey, listen, don’t worry about that,'” Boyd said. “We had a whole football game to play, but I was just trying to get my point across. Like I said, I’m not that type of person.”
The coach of the Texans, DeMeco Ryans, who did not see the sign, condemned the incident.

“What I have seen is that we will not come out of the first game and throw the helmet,” said Ryans. “That’s not what we teach. That’s not what we talk about.”
The Chiefs won the game 22-14.
