New York City Mayor Eric Adams and President-elect Trump met in Palm Beach, Florida, on Friday, three days before Trump returned to the White House.
“President Trump and I had a meaningful conversation about the needs of New Yorkers and what’s best for our city and how the federal government can play a meaningful role in improving the lives of New Yorkers,” Adams said in a joint statement through his spokesman, Fabien. Levy.
“Although we briefly touched on a few things, we are more focused on the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas and how it will have a positive impact on public safety in our country; how can we bring manufacturing jobs back to New York, especially the Bronx; and how we can continue to invest in New York City, especially when it comes to infrastructure.”
The Democratic mayor, who is awaiting trial on corruption charges in April, said the two did not discuss their legal issues at the meeting.

As president, Trump would have the power to pardon Adams.
Adams faces charges of accepting lavish travel payments and illegal campaign contributions from foreign nationals to commit acts of corruption.
Trump, who was convicted in a New York court last year of falsifying business records, has previously defended Adams, saying the charges against the mayor may have been filed because he criticized President Biden over the border.
Trump said he would consider a pardon for Adams.
“To be clear, we did not discuss my case, and those who suggest that the mayor of the largest city in the country should not meet with the incoming president to discuss important things in our cities because of incorrect assumptions or because we come from different groups that clearly care more about politics than people,” said Adams.
“As I have always done, I will take every opportunity to stand up for New Yorkers and our city. And, after our conversation, I strongly believe that there is much more that our city and the federal government can do together to make New York City safer, stronger and more affordable thanks to President Trump for his time and his attention and I look forward to working with him for the benefit of all New Yorkers.

Adams was criticized by some New York politicians for the meeting.
“Trump’s agenda will not help move our city or country forward. This pilgrimage is clearly something else,” said Sen. Zellnor Myrie on X this week.
New York City Administrator Brad Lander wrote in X that “Eric Adams should immediately say that he will not seek or accept a pardon from Donald Trump. New Yorkers need to know that their Mayor is putting their interests before his – and that our tax dollars, or Turkish Airlines, will be sponsoring his trip to Florida.”
