Commemorative Trump transit cards were issued by DC Metro prior to the inauguration
As Americans flock to the nation’s capital for the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has released a special public transit card to honor the event.
The “Commemorative Inauguration SmarTrip Card” is a reloadable payment card that can hold up to $300 in savings on city public transportation, according to the WMATA website.
The transportation card features an image of Trump over a red background with the large number “47” appearing behind the President-elect.

WMATA noted that the cards are being sold at the Metro Center station.
In 2017, WMATA released a standard sleeve card featuring Trump’s face.
A WMATA spokesperson told Fox News Digital, “We’ve done a variety of special themed inauguration cards since 1993, except for 2021 because the inauguration became a virtual event because of the pandemic.”
To get a Trump transit card, be sure to add a fare (one-way fares vary from $2.25 to $6.75 depending on the distance) or buy a 1-Day unlimited pass for $13.50. A $2 SmarTrip fee will also be charged, according to the WMATA site.
Some travelers have already collected Trump souvenir cards and counted transit passes to be resold.

On eBay, some people have a card listed for about $20, while one seller has listed one card with a $450 starting bid or “Best Offer.”
“It reflects the President’s achievements and contributions to the country, making it a valuable addition to any collection,” the seller wrote in the listing description.
Adding, “The card is perfect for those who love political memorabilia and historical collections. It’s a tangible reminder of the President’s time and the impact he had on the United States.”
Other Trump cards are listed with bids starting at $150 and $300.
Barack Obama Metro cards from Inauguration Day 2009 are also being listed for auction on eBay – with prices ranging from $500 to $1,000.

Kristin Petersen, a travel consultant at Travelmation, told Fox News Digital that visitors can stay in out-of-state areas at Metro stops.
“Consider another destination that’s close to a Metro station, even as far away as Vienna, Virginia,” advises Petersen.
He added, “The trains will be running but make sure they check the schedule because they may change to special events like its opening.”
