DOGE caucus road map to cut government waste emerges after closed meeting: ‘great synergy’

The Congressional DOGE Caucus’ plans to cut government waste are in flux after the group’s second closed-door meeting on Wednesday.

Caucus leaders divided the lawmakers into eight groups focused on different areas of waste management. These will focus on retirement, social and family security, emergency funding, energy authorization, homeland security, defense and veterans, labor and government operations, according to a document seen by Fox News Digital.

Co-chairs Aaron Bean, R-Fla., and Pete Sessions, R-Texas, challenged lawmakers in the chamber to introduce at least one government efficiency bill in the 119th Congress.

Both told Fox News Digital that it was one of the coordinated efforts the caucus is planning as it seeks legislative support from the Department of Government Operations (DOGE) led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy.

“We are here we’re going to push for a day where we’re going to pass laws, a day where we’re going to talk to the American people,” Sessions told Fox News Digital.

Beans described it with a vision, writing it as “DOGE Days.”

“We’re going to have a day where hopefully we can draw 20, 30 bills and all the DOGE members come forward, we’re on it,” Bean said. “We’re going to have great teamwork and great collaboration and momentum.”

They asked attendees to fill out a survey, a copy of which was obtained by Fox News Digital, detailing which active groups they would like to be a part of.

During the closed session, the lawyers took turns to discuss their ideas for cutting government waste.

Rep. Jay Obernolte, R-Calif., has called for a constitutional amendment requiring Congress to balance the federal budget.

And Rep. Jeff Van Drew, RN.J., proposed ending eligibility for the child credit for illegal immigrants.

“Right now, we’re not paying enough attention … when illegal immigrants get the child tax credit, the child care tax credit. That’s ridiculous. You know, so those were the easy things to do, the low-hanging fruit. ,” Van Drew told Fox News Digital when asked about his comments. in the meeting.

Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, who is leading the DOGE effort on the Senate side and also attended Wednesday’s House meeting, urged lawmakers there to work with their partners in the upper chamber on bicameral bills.

Lawmakers are interested in the goals set by the new team of Musk and Ramaswamy. Endorsed by President-elect Trump, the group is an advisory group meant to recommend where the executive branch can cut government waste.

The DOGE Caucus is an effort to make Trump’s spending cuts plans permanent through legislation.

The group opened and emailed a tip line that Bean and Sessions said has received more than 15,000 emails.

Bean said he was surprised but happy with the excitement.

Sessions added, “I got about 200 letters here that were actually typed, and some were written, saying, ‘Thank you for doing this. I’d like you to hear from me.’ And this is a nod back to the Americans who have skin in the game as well.”
