Ricki Lake warns fans of fundraising scam using her name after her home was vandalized
Ricki Lake has a warning for fans as he and others work to rebuild their lives after the devastating LA fires.
In a video shared on her Instagram, the “Hairspray” star said things are “surreal” right now, especially after hearing that “there was a post, [posing] like me, I’m asking for money.”
“I’m not asking for money,” explained Lake. “I don’t even know what happened, but it looked like maybe the mail was gone.”

He added that he plans to donate to “a lot of organizations” and hopes to set up a matching fund program for anyone who wants to contribute, but it’s clear that he wasn’t seeking money from the community.

“If you see a GoFundMe with my name attached asking for money, that’s not me.”
Lake lost his home in Malibu last week in the Palisades Fire, telling fans it was “his dream home.”

“All gone,” he wrote, under a series of photos of his home before the fire. “I can’t believe I’m writing these words.” Lake said a “courageous and courageous effort” was made by their friend to save the home, but unfortunately they were unsuccessful. “The place where we planned to grow old together. We didn’t take our heavenly spot overlooking our beloved Malibu for granted, not even for a second. I share our sunset views with you almost every day.”
In his latest video post, the former talk show host admitted to being at a loss for words.
“I was very touched by the love and support I felt in the world,” she said. “It’s been… I’m speechless. I’m a f—ing talk show host! And I’m speechless for what we’re all going through as a Los Angeles community.”

He continued, “I just wanted to connect and say thank you, thank you for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. And we’re going to get better, we’re going to get better.”
At one point, the 56-year-old became emotional, saying, “My heart bleeds for the people who are going through this next to me, and I know I’m one of the lucky ones in many ways. But I’m devastated. I’m traumatized by my community, I’m struggling, but I’m fine.”
Lake, who previously lost his home to a fire in 2010, said, “This was different. This is different. This is our whole community and town and city. And this, I can’t believe it’s been a week. In some ways, it feels like last night, and in some ways, it feels like it was five years ago. .

He ended his video, telling fans, “I just send my condolences and love to my man and the animals. Don’t get me started on the animals.
