MSNBC’s Alex Wagner says the media missed a ‘terrible moment’ in the 2024 election

MSNBC host Alex Wagner lamented Monday that the Democratic Party and the media missed a “terrible moment” in the 2024 election in terms of what voters really cared about and detailed how he will spend President-elect Donald Trump’s 100 days.

“I think one of the feelings that we’ve all had after this election is over is that we missed this terrible time, in the media, to some extent, and certainly in the Democratic Party,” Wagner said.

Wagner, who took over from MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow for the network’s four-night primetime slot, will be hitting the road to address voters and more during Trump’s first 100 days. Maddow, who previously stepped down from hosting her own show one night a week on MSNBC, will be bringing back the 9PM show for the first few months of Trump’s presidency.

“I think it’s important that we get out there and show the world a 360-degree view of what’s going on and how people are being affected on a visceral and personal level. So much of what’s going on is abstract,” he said.

I thought, ‘You know what? The message doesn’t work around that.’

“At the moment, I think the question is, what does it mean to have Trump as president beyond just a speech? Whose lives are affected? He wants to stop mass deportation camps? We will talk to the people affected?’ he is gathered. He wants to talk about pardoning the riots of January 6, we will talk to the prisoners when they are released who has the power and they do it how is that?

Wagner spoke to Latino and Black voters before the election in Philadelphia, and was surprised by their support for Trump’s call for “mass deportation.”

Wagner and Maddow will return to their current show, with Maddow hosting the event Monday night and Wagner hosting the entire week, April 30, according to the AP.

“I just think that the construction of this idea reveals a lot about a man who fundamentally believes in the supremacy of whiteness and masculinity, and is placed in a kind of halcyon, you know, re-examination of his roots, but it really reveals what he thinks about important things and who America is, and that America is a place for people with a Western background. that we share,” Wagner said in July.
