Biden nominates 2 state monuments in California

On Tuesday President Biden signed proclamations establishing the Chuckwalla National Monument and the Sáttítla Highlands National Monument, which will protect hundreds of thousands of acres of land in California, during his last week in office.

The event was delayed for a week due to the wildfires raging in Southern California, and Biden revealed that he wanted to hold the event in the state, but it had to be moved to the White House.

“We have been carrying out the most aggressive climate agenda in the history of the world,” the president said in the East Room of the White House, before discussing the country’s monuments. “Our natural wonders are the heart and soul of our nation.”

He said in his second week as president he signed an executive order that “establishes the first ever conservation goal to protect 30% of all our land and water everywhere in America by 2030 … I call this national campaign America the Beautiful … And in the last four years, we have brought … to put America in a position to meet that bold goal, to restore it, to build new national monuments, to preserve hundreds of millions of acres of land and water across America, from New England to Minnesota, Texas to Colorado, Arizona, Alaska.”
