There is a sci-fi classic from the 1970s that has received more spoofs and spoofs than any other movie of that decade. The first is obvious star Wars and we already covered which of these beats you should see in the previous video, so go watch that if you need more lasers and space battles in your life.
Because this time, we cover that other 1970s sci-fi game changer, Alien. A simple space monster movie became a masterpiece that reshaped the future of both science fiction and horror cinema. And because it’s been such a blockbuster success, you know the movies will continue to be promoted and ripped straight Alien decades to come.
Therefore, we decided to explore the vastness of space and even the depths of the ocean to find the perfect cream of the xenomorphic plant. I’m Drew Dietsch of Giant Freakin Robot and this is a Top 10 list Alien knockoffs are actually worth your time.
10. Contamination (1980)
You know we had to put in the ripoff maestros, the Italians, and have a lot of options to choose from. Heck, the Italians even went so far as to make a film called The alien 2! But we will include only one Italian Alien it’s a knockoff and it should come from our favorite Italian star Wars ripoff director, StarcrashLuigi Cozzi’s. This Dirt.
It is released the following year after Alien, Dirt bringing evil alien eggs to Earth because that’s cheaper than building spaceship sets. There are a lot of fun, bad effects and some lovely ones like the olives used for alien eggs or the giant Cyclops monster Dirt a good example of the cheesy enjoyment of Italian ripoffs.
9. Lily CAT (1987)
Anime in the 1980s took a lot of inspiration Alien. So much so that it came full circle with a short anime fan film, Alien: Monday. But Lily CAT it’s the only one that goes into full ripoff territory.
And it takes its cues from John Carpenter’s Something, Lily CAT it’s a simple and straightforward story about space crews who are terrorized by an emerging virus. Like many anime from the ’80s, the violence and salaciousness are over the top. In less than 70 minutes, Lily CAT is an instant and concentrated hit of Alien bring out the beauty.
8. Life (1985)
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre director Tobe Hooper comes together Alien and another film we have mentioned on this channel, Quatermass and Pitin a bombastic and boobtastic blockbuster, Life force.
Based on the novel Space Vampires, Life force offers a unique spin on “finding an abandoned spacecraft” by placing an alien vehicle in the coma of a comet. When the trick comes to Earth, you’ll be treated to dramatic effects worthy of a lifetime of film.
7. Leviathan (1989)
Several films were rushed into production in the late 1980s in anticipation of another film being released, The pit of the abyss. That’s right, since The pit of the abyss they hadn’t actually released it, they had to tear it up Alien with their plans. And while I can certainly sing the praises of DeepStar Sixthe best of these is George P. Cosmatos Leviathan.
With an incredibly successful main cast, Leviathan conveys the horrors of the claustrophobic space of Alien in the depths of the sea. If you like yours Alien the knockoffs are wet and wild, be sure to set aside some time Leviathan.
6. The Forbidden World (1982)
Like the Italians, Roger Corman ripped Alien more times than we can count. But, if there is a test of his exploitation that stands out in this forum, it should be The Forbidden World.
You won’t find anything new here when it comes to the story though The Forbidden World plays the hits with great success. And it’s not even 80 minutes long, so this is another short and sweet sequel that any self-respecting B-movie fan needs to check off their list.
5. Under the Water (2020)
Oh, you thought this was going to be nothing but ’80s movies? No! Alien continues to be a source of inspiration for filmmakers and Under the water it is today’s most exciting example. It hit theaters in 2020 and was quickly forgotten by audiences. That’s their loss because when it comes to a big studio Alien knockoffs, Under the water you are a big winner.
Great production design, a moving script, and some really bad revelations Under the water the kind of sci-fi horror we don’t often get out of Hollywood. If this flies under your radar, do yourself a favor and check it out Under the water. It’s only 95 minutes! Bless these Alien films and their reasonable working hours.
4. Event Horizon (1997)
Hey, I think we’ve talked about this movie before! Seriously, you can go check out our entire video about it Event Horizonbut it is important to note that director Paul WS Anderson was not shy about his influences in the making Event Horizonagain Alien it’s all over the movie.
Although it ends up being very dependent Hellraiser than Alienall production design of Event Horizon is directly influenced by Ridley Scott’s truck driver take on sci-fi technology. You want something supernatural Alien respect? Event Horizon your ticket.
3. Deep Rising (1998)
A ragtag group of miscreants must deal with a seemingly abandoned ship and begin to fall prey to a strange monster? No, you haven’t come back Nostromobooked an episode on The Argonautica and the absolute blast that it is Deep Growth.
Another banger ensemble cast and blockbuster score appear Mother director Stephen Sommers agrees Deep Growth being a popcorn treat that is always fun. If you can’t stop smiling during this movie, you might want to check your heart rate.
2. Pitch Black (2000)
Before he did anything outside Fast & Furious films, Vin Diesel starred as the villain Riddick in the Pitch blackone of the best sci-fi horror movies of the 2000s.
You are normal Alien story archetypes: misfit space crew, strange planet, unknown alien monsters. All of that works well but it’s the inclusion of the villainous Riddick into the mix that really gives this a different flavor. And the alien monsters are just amazing. I will watch this over any other Vin Diesel movie anytime. …Except maybe The Iron Giant.
1. Outland (1981)
The best Alien The knockoff is actually a movie that you may not have seen or associated with Alien. Outside is a true Western in space with Sean Connery playing a law enforcement officer in a mining area where the illegal drug market thrives. No monster is unknown Outside but the set designs, tone, and themes of the movie have always made me disagree with that Outside it can also happen locally Alien the whole place.
And it’s a legitimately good movie that most people seem to have forgotten. If you want to see a story that sounds like it belongs to the scary companies of Alien, Outside home run and that makes it number one Alien to knock.
