The EU is sending 140 million euros in humanitarian aid to Ukraine
The European Commission announced Monday a new humanitarian aid package worth 140 million euros ($142.8 million) to address the most pressing needs in eastern and southern Ukraine.
The grant is designed to help provide food, shelter, clean water, health care and winter protection to vulnerable people in war-torn areas, the commission said in a press release.
The commission estimates that around 12.7 million Ukrainians are in need of emergency assistance.
Neighboring Moldova is receiving another 8 million Euros to support Ukrainian refugees with financial aid and access to health care, education and psychological support.
The new package brings the total amount of aid granted by the European Commission to more than €1.1 billion, said a press release.
The announcement comes as EU Disaster Commissioner Hadja Lahbib is visiting Ukraine where she is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
